1 shirt 5 ways

Top

Top (clipped to polyvore.com)

I picked out this shirt this morning from RueLaLa with the $25 credit I had. Cute, right? I decided to plan out some different outfits I could make with it. I will say it again if you're not already using it- Polyvore is such a great tool! Whenever I buy purchases online, I'm able to just click the 'clip to polyvore' button on my toolbar and on it goes under my liked items there. I also keep it updated with the items I already own buy in stores by finding the exact pieces or look-alikes to also save under my liked items. Then I can create outfit sets whenever I want (or wherever I want on the iphone app). And the interface is great. This isn't a sponsored post in any way, by the way, I just love Polyvore!

Anyway, here are 5 outfits I created with this one top, and all of the items are the exact or based on pieces I own. Hopefully it can give you an idea of all the ways you can style a similar top!

For the first look, I wanted to have one with long pants, so I decided to use my mustard yellow pants. I also love pairing the navy and white striped scarf with the top for a cute nautical look, and the scarf looks great with the pants as well!

I love the idea of pairing this top with a long black skirt for an effortless chic vibe. I paired with very simple gold and black accessories to keep it more casual.

The third look is more of a fun summer look, pulling in different colors with the sandals and the anchor necklace. It's a cute summer casual look.

For the next look, I kept it all black and white. It's still casual, but on the dressier side.

Finally, I paired the top with blue shorts and sandals, and my steamboat wheel necklace that I wore in my last post. I think it looks great with blue as well.

Keeping it simple

I have been so in love with this color combination lately of cobalt blue and maroon. They look so good together! I decided to keep it simple with more dainty gold accessories and I threw on my gold jelly flats. Isn't this little nautical necklace from Forever 21 cute? It adds the perfect touch to this outfit, and the amazing part is that it was only $1.80!! Seriously, Forever 21 is THE BEST place to go for jewelry on a budget.

Black and Mustard

You may recognize this as Outfit 2 in my 7X7 REMIX. I love this combination with the black on top and mustard on the bottom, because I think it just looks nice and pulled together, without actually having to try hard at all. All I did was throw on a gold necklace and a gold ring to pull it all together in a simple way. I'm not wearing my shoes in these pictures unfortunately, since I took these during a brief visit home in the middle of the day and my shoes usually come off when I walk in the door. But just try to picture it with my brown TOMS.

Purple Maxi Skirt

I'm not a skirt in everyday life kind of girl. I'm more of a wear pants every chance I get kind of girl. And I'm not even sure why, because skirts can be very comfortable and also nice and cool in the summer. I think I just could never get it out of my head that they should be dressed up. So when I saw the Trend of the Month at Marionberry Style was maxis, I decided to challenge myself with it by taking this old skirt and dressing it down in a very casual way. And it was comfy and painless! I got these sandals a little over a year ago and they are one of my favorite pairs because they really look great with almost everything. Then for accessories, I put on this aztec ring and this neon bracelet Charlotte Russe. Neon is so big right now, and I love how bright and fun this bracelet is!

Kid Day Casual

Hey, this is my 50th post! Yesterday I nannied all day to three children, so I decided to go with a comfy, casual outfit from my 7x7 remix: outfit 1. I haven't worn this necklace in awhile but I thought it would go well with the top. I made it out of polymer clay, back when I had the time to do such things. But really, polymer clay is addicting once you realize all of the awesome things you can make from it!

I recently joined LOOKBOOK, and I really like it a lot so far. It is great for fashion inspiration and there are so many gorgeous outfits people have posted. Plus, I really like that you get a daily email featuring looks of people you've "fanned", which is great for days you don't have time to look around the site. I'll be posting some of my looks there as well, and I'm adding a link in my sidebar to my profile. Hope to see you there!

7x7 Outfit: Grey and Polka Dots

I had to snap these photos quickly and I was right out of the shower, so they're not the nicest. Oops. But today I am wearing one of my 7x7 remix outfits, outfit 3 to be exact. I decided to go with a more circular theme with my accessories to subtly tie in the polka dots. I love this mint bubble necklace, and I think it fits perfectly with the easygoing vibe of the outfit, while adding a lot more interest to it.

7x7 Remix

When I saw Audrey post about the 7x7 remix on Putting Me Together, I decided to take the challenge. I've never done a remix before and the thought has always been a little daunting, but I wanted to see what I could come up with.

7x7 remix pieces

I created all the looks on Polyvore for now, using items that look as similar as possible to my own (the TOMS and the purple shirt are exact). I'm going to try to wear these outfits in the coming weeks, and when I do I'll post them and link to them in this post as well! I chose pieces that I all thought would go well with each other. It's all pretty basic, but I would accessorize them to add a little excitement. Here's my rationale on my items: Purple button up top: I picked this up at Kohl's on sale a couple weeks ago. I have been obsessed with finding new button ups lately, and I like that this one has shorter sleeves for warmer weather. I definitely wanted to have a button up in my 7 pieces because of how versatile they are- you can wear them by themselves, layered, buttoned, unbuttoned, and tied! Grey t shirt: The ultimate basic. I have a few grey t shirts in my closet and I couldn't imagine not having one. They go with EVERYTHING and always look good. Black t shirt: I debated because it's another neutral t shirt, but it still makes for different looks. Black is just chic, and a black t shirt is another great wardrobe staple. Denim shorts: I got these last month and I didn't realize how much I needed a great pair of denim shorts until I got them. Basically any outfit you can make with jeans can be made with these for summer. And it always looks cute! Mustard pants: I'm so in love with these pants, and I've mostly dressed them up so far, so I wanted to make more casual outfits I could wear with them. Polka dot capris: Mine are denim polka dot, which you'll see when I wear them. I have wanted polka dot pants for the longest time so I was so excited when I tried these on and they fit perfectly. Since they're denim they'll go with anything, but the polka dots just make them so much cuter and less boring. Brown TOMS: I am a huge lover of TOMS, and I could walk around in them all day every day. This brown pair goes with everything!

I would definitely accessorize this, and it's a great base to show off accessories! SEE ME WEARING IT HERE

7x7 remix outfit 4

This outfit is a little less casual (at least in my world), and I like the pairing of purple and mustard together.

7x7 remix outfit 5

The ultimate basic casual outfit for summer, right? And again you can really elevate it with a couple great accessories!

7x7 remix outfit 6

I think this outfit could also look a little more on the nicer side of casual. It's put together while very comfortable at the same time.

7x7 remix outfit 7

I love grey paired with any shade of yellow! When putting this outfit together, I couldn't believe I hadn't worn it yet! I'm linking this post up for the 7x7 Remix, and I can't wait to see what everyone else comes up with!

Black Button Down Casual

I'm trying a new format for the pictures. Oh hi, my face! We'll work on getting them better quality next time... I've been looking for a black button down like this for awhile, and when I saw this one on Forever 21's website, I knew I had to have it. It's everything I wanted and more. I wanted to dress it down, so I paired it with these jeans. I thought this multicolor chain necklace would be fun to bring in a little color, along with the shoes.
