1 piece many ways: chambray shirt

1 piece many ways collection

I love the idea of the link up happening at Putting Me Together of showing how to wear one piece many ways! I've said it before but in case you're new to this blog, a chambray shirt is such an essential wardrobe staple to have, so I knew that that's what I wanted to showcase for this post. Seriously, they can be dressed up or down, tucked, untucked, tied, sleeves rolled up or down, buttoned, unbuttoned, layered over, layered under, and the list goes on. It's such a great piece to invest in because I promise, you'll be wearing it all the time. I got mine from DKNY, but you can find a good one from many stores. Here are some outfits I've created based on outfits that I've worn or could wear because I own similar or the exact pieces.

I suffered an unfortunate fall last week which has really aggravated the nerve condition I have to an extreme level, so I've spent the past week resting and elevating my legs whenever I've been home. Therefore I don't have pictures of me actually wearing all of the outfits, but I do have the polyvore sets, which can also be clicked on to shop the items or similar ones. If there are any outfits you'd like to see worn though, you can request it and I'll try to wear it as soon as possible!

chambray and purple shorts

This is an outfit I've worn and posted before on this blog (see the post here). Denim on denim is on trend right now but if you're like me and not really sure about pulling it off, you can cheat a little with purple jeans instead. They're still close in color, but it made me feel more comfortable than actually wearing blue denim on denim. The pop of yellow in the shoes of this outfit adds some fun to it, while the jewelry is piled on but stays with silver and pearl- neutral colors. I seriously loved wearing this outfit!

mint, black, and chambray

mint, black, and chambray by greathappiness featuring cotton shirts

I think the mint, black, and chambray color combo of this outfit works so great. The black top and the mint pants could be seen as more dressy, but by putting on the chambray and the sandals, it gives it a more casual vibe. I would leave the top unbuttoned and tie it around the waist for this outfit so it gives you more shape and still looks a little nicer to go with the pants than it would just hanging down. The sandals can easily be substituted for closed toed shoes in cooler weather.

fall layers

I can't wait until Fall so I can wear this outfit! This is the first example of using the top as a shirt layered under other layers. It would go great with an oatmeal cardigan, and when you pair it with some brown boots and a cute scarf in the brown/tan family, doesn't it just make you want to spend the day on a ranch?

lbd and chambray

So another wardrobe staple that is super versatile is a little black dress. By putting an unbuttoned hanging loose chambray top over it, you keep the look more casual but totally classic at the same time. I added some mixed metals for the accessories, and a belt as well, which I would wear under the chambray top for a more easy breezy vibe, however, I'm sure it would totally work worn over it too for a bit more structured look!

chambray and stripes

Here is the top layered over another top again, but this time a patterned one. As you can tell, I love some stripes. Because there are a lot of layered components to this outfit it's harder to see it all on together just looking at this collage, but try to picture it. It makes for a totally adorable outfit with the pop of color through the red knit scarf, another casual look that I can't wait to try out when Fall gets here!

chambray and floral

I got this pair of pants from Loft a few months ago because they were on sale for a great price and I love floral patterns. I used to be scared of floral pants because I thought they were too loud, but then I took the plunge with another pair I bought before these, and when I wore them for the first time, I realized they're not so scary after all! The thing is, that floral pants make enough of a big statement by themselves that you can just stay totally toned down with the rest of your outfit and look great. And a chambray top is perfect for that, looking great with these pants. I just finished the look off with some simple black flats. I didn't add any accessories here but you totally still could, although I would keep them simple.

chambray and purple shorts

For the warm weather days of summer, here's a nice and cool look. The sleeves of the top can easily be rolled up to be cooler and many times the shirts have buttons and loops to secure them there. You can pair the top with any printed shorts, I just happen to have purple plaid ones. Because denim is a neutral, any color or pattern goes!

Fall outfit

This is an outfit full of neutrals but still done in an interesting way. The chambray with a brown leather jacket makes me swoon over this combination. And I had been looking for a black knit infinity scarf and happened to find one for $5 at ILY Couture- score! This could be worn on a chilly day in late Fall or early Winter.

chambray and black shorts

I wore this outfit in a recent post (see it here), but I went with red wedge sandals instead for a pop of color, and I added a peach necklace, which is hard to see in this picture. Another great summery outfit and it's a classy nice casual one that you can't go wrong with. As I mentioned in the post, I tied the bottom of the shirt in the front because the shorts aren't fitted in order to give the look more definition. If I had left it hanging it would have looked frumpy, can you imagine it and see the difference? But look at the top outfit that I wore. That one I let hang down with the loose fit because the skinny jeans that I was wearing  were fitted and gave definition, so it was ok for the top to be loose. Loose on loose is frumpy, so if you want part of your outfit to be baggy, go with something fitted for the other half.

red and chambray

Another cardigan and boots look but different from the other one, so cute right? I really love red with the chambray- I think they look great together. Again for this one, I would wear the belt over the shirt and under the cardigan. I'm realizing how many of these outfits have black pants, but if you're more comfortable with denim on denim than I am, a darker wash skinny jean would work just as well.

burgundy and chambray

This outfit is a little different because it plays on the color blue in the top, rather than treating it as a neutral. This adorable scarf that I have from Charlotte Russe picks up the blue in the polka dots of it, and I love it paired with the burgundy color of the scarf. If you don't have the same scarf, though, don't worry, you can get the same effect with another scarf, or a necklace, bracelet, ring, or detail in a shoe that matches the top in color.

coral and leopard

And finally for the last outfit, I paired the top with a pullover sweater to be layered underneath for a twist on the preppy look. I like the coral with it, but any color would be great. I envision wearing this outfit at a holiday party of some kind. Top it off with a simply colored statement necklace this this white bubble one, and I added the leopard flats for something fun.

I hope that if you have a chambray shirt this helped to provide you with some new outfit ideas and if you don't, you're able to see just how versatile they are. I have 12 different outfits here, but I could go on and on!

1 shirt 5 ways

Top

Top (clipped to polyvore.com)

I picked out this shirt this morning from RueLaLa with the $25 credit I had. Cute, right? I decided to plan out some different outfits I could make with it. I will say it again if you're not already using it- Polyvore is such a great tool! Whenever I buy purchases online, I'm able to just click the 'clip to polyvore' button on my toolbar and on it goes under my liked items there. I also keep it updated with the items I already own buy in stores by finding the exact pieces or look-alikes to also save under my liked items. Then I can create outfit sets whenever I want (or wherever I want on the iphone app). And the interface is great. This isn't a sponsored post in any way, by the way, I just love Polyvore!

Anyway, here are 5 outfits I created with this one top, and all of the items are the exact or based on pieces I own. Hopefully it can give you an idea of all the ways you can style a similar top!

For the first look, I wanted to have one with long pants, so I decided to use my mustard yellow pants. I also love pairing the navy and white striped scarf with the top for a cute nautical look, and the scarf looks great with the pants as well!

I love the idea of pairing this top with a long black skirt for an effortless chic vibe. I paired with very simple gold and black accessories to keep it more casual.

The third look is more of a fun summer look, pulling in different colors with the sandals and the anchor necklace. It's a cute summer casual look.

For the next look, I kept it all black and white. It's still casual, but on the dressier side.

Finally, I paired the top with blue shorts and sandals, and my steamboat wheel necklace that I wore in my last post. I think it looks great with blue as well.

7x7 Remix

When I saw Audrey post about the 7x7 remix on Putting Me Together, I decided to take the challenge. I've never done a remix before and the thought has always been a little daunting, but I wanted to see what I could come up with.

7x7 remix pieces

I created all the looks on Polyvore for now, using items that look as similar as possible to my own (the TOMS and the purple shirt are exact). I'm going to try to wear these outfits in the coming weeks, and when I do I'll post them and link to them in this post as well! I chose pieces that I all thought would go well with each other. It's all pretty basic, but I would accessorize them to add a little excitement. Here's my rationale on my items: Purple button up top: I picked this up at Kohl's on sale a couple weeks ago. I have been obsessed with finding new button ups lately, and I like that this one has shorter sleeves for warmer weather. I definitely wanted to have a button up in my 7 pieces because of how versatile they are- you can wear them by themselves, layered, buttoned, unbuttoned, and tied! Grey t shirt: The ultimate basic. I have a few grey t shirts in my closet and I couldn't imagine not having one. They go with EVERYTHING and always look good. Black t shirt: I debated because it's another neutral t shirt, but it still makes for different looks. Black is just chic, and a black t shirt is another great wardrobe staple. Denim shorts: I got these last month and I didn't realize how much I needed a great pair of denim shorts until I got them. Basically any outfit you can make with jeans can be made with these for summer. And it always looks cute! Mustard pants: I'm so in love with these pants, and I've mostly dressed them up so far, so I wanted to make more casual outfits I could wear with them. Polka dot capris: Mine are denim polka dot, which you'll see when I wear them. I have wanted polka dot pants for the longest time so I was so excited when I tried these on and they fit perfectly. Since they're denim they'll go with anything, but the polka dots just make them so much cuter and less boring. Brown TOMS: I am a huge lover of TOMS, and I could walk around in them all day every day. This brown pair goes with everything!

I've been wanting to do this color combination since I saw it on Taylor Swift and pinned her outfit. SEE ME WEARING IT HERE

I would definitely accessorize this, and it's a great base to show off accessories! SEE ME WEARING IT HERE

7x7 remix outfit 4

This outfit is a little less casual (at least in my world), and I like the pairing of purple and mustard together.

7x7 remix outfit 5

The ultimate basic casual outfit for summer, right? And again you can really elevate it with a couple great accessories!

7x7 remix outfit 6

I think this outfit could also look a little more on the nicer side of casual. It's put together while very comfortable at the same time.

7x7 remix outfit 7

I love grey paired with any shade of yellow! When putting this outfit together, I couldn't believe I hadn't worn it yet! I'm linking this post up for the 7x7 Remix, and I can't wait to see what everyone else comes up with!

I'm also linking this up for Random Wednesday at Because Shanna Said So

Vacation Disneybounds

I recently took a trip to Disney World for the week, so of course I had to Disneybound each day. But my Disneybounding on a trip like that is different than here at home. First of all, it was in the 80's every day there, and second of all, I was walking 12-14 miles each day. Plus it all had to fit in my suitcase. So my plan was simple and cool. Because I'm a visual planner, I had to lay it all out on polyvore first.

disneybound outfits for my trip

I planned 8 and only needed 7, so I ended up not wearing the Flounder one, but I do plan to duplicate that in my life soon. Most of these pieces were bought either at Goodwill, eBay, or Kmart. Hence, very little money was spent and my wallet was happy. Here are the pictures of me wearing them! (Sorry the full length mirror was by the toilet!)

If the Minnie and Snow White outfits look familiar, it's because I just adapted them to more casual, warmer weather outfits from the ones that I previously wore. So simple! :)

Stripes and Brown

For my first day not Disneybounding in a month, I went to an outfit I had created on Polyvore. I highly recommend using sites like Polyvore and/or Go Chic or Go Home to preplan outfits based on the clothes you have. You don't have to use them every day, but sometimes it's really nice not to think and just have something already picked out by you and for you!

I really love this outfit. It should be no secret by now that I love stripes, especially black and white. This scarf is new and I am SO in love with it! It is so soft and stretchy and just fabulous. And the best part is that it's on sale- see the link below! I wore this outfit to play with my little guy and do another video. He seemed to like my scarf a lot as well ;)

Top: Old Navy (similar- $30)
Pants: Pajama Jeans (exact- $20)
Scarf: 2020 Ave (exact- $5)
Bracelet: 1 Sale a Day (similar- $16)
Ring: Forever 21 (exact- $4.80)

Disneybound Day 11/April 11th Outfit

Today I went to visit an awesome little boy I'm working with through a school program. I had to develop and video a play session with him like we would do in developmental therapy. So I needed to look semi decent for my video but also be in clothes I could play around with a little boy in.

Faline

I got this sweater a few weeks ago from Old Navy and I really just wanted to wear it before the weather gets too warm. Isn't it cute? So I designed a Disneybound around it. Faline seemed to fit the best. I got these pants from Goodwill for $4 back in the fall and was so excited!

Top: Old Navy (exact)
Pants: Old Navy (similar)
Necklace: forever 21 (similar)
Ring: forever 21 (exact)

I’m currently in the process of going through each of my clothing and accessory items and saving them (or similar items if I can’t find the exact) on polyvore. I have a lot of stuff so it’s tedious work! But it will be so worth it when I’m done, to be able to have my own virtual closet on there and come up with outfits I can wear in the future for all occasions. And I can even do it on the go on the iphone app. So far I have all of my pants, scarves, bags, blazers, cardigans, and bracelets done, and some of each of the other categories.
